Story
Sunil (Shahrukh Khan) is a lost cause in his father Vinayak's (Anjan Srivastav) mind. Sunil and his friends have started a band. When Anna (Suchitra Krishnamoorthi), his childhood friend, joins the group, everyone is excited, especially Sunil, who secretly loves Anna. The only other person knowing this is his sister (Sadia Siddiqui). As Anna joins the group, they start hunting opportunities to make it big in the music world. Chris (Deepak Tijori), a friend and band member, is Sunil's antithesis. Chris is the son of an affluent couple, in contrast to Sunil, who is son of a middle-class man. Chris has a better academic record, while Sunil just faked his marksheet to hide the fact that he failed.

In short, any girl's parents would choose Chris over Sunil. Anna's father does just that. Sunil tries to change his image but when he learns that Anna loves Chris, he is devastated. Anna and Chris start hanging out. A jealous Sunil starts misguiding them against each other. He succeeds in creating a rift between the two but eventually gets caught. Anna slaps him and walks away. Gradually, the duo forgive Sunil, but they don't realize why he did this. Sunil's fortune takes a turn once again when Chris's parents refuse the marriage of Chris and Anna, because Anna is from a lower class. Chris has to leave Anna devastated. Sunil consoles Anna in this period. Anna has no other option but to marry Sunil. The wedding is fixed. Sunil is happy, until he realizes that Anna still loves Chris. Sunil decides to re-unite them. The Sullivan's too realize their mistake. Chris and Anna's wedding is announced: Sunil gets to be the best man.

As Chris and Anna are about to exchange rings, Chris's ring slips out of his hand. Everybody starts searching for it. Whoever gets the ring can claim Anna's hand. So, Sunil gets one more chance. Sunil spots the ring but feigns ignorance. Chris finally "finds" the ring and marries Anna. Just after the wedding, Sunil is shown packing his bags and leaving his father's home to find his own destiny. Vinayak, who knows the background story, makes up with his son, stating that he is proud to be Sunil's father. Sunil is seen walking in moonlight, where he meets a girl (Juhi Chawla). Some time later, Sunil and the girl are seen walking in the moonlight and talking merrily. Anthony (Goga Kapoor) and Bosco (Virendra Saxena), two criminals who had seen Sunil and his group's show, see Sunil with the new girl and break the fourth wall saying that Sunil will be all right. The criminals hear a police siren and scamper away.

Vishwanath is a multi-millionaire industrialist, who lives in a palatial house, with his only chid, a son named Vijay. Vishwanath would like his son to get married and be responsible. Vijay agrees to get married on condition that his future bride sign an agreement that the marriage is on a trial basis for one year and, thereafter, if Vijay does not fall in love with her, the marriage gets annulled. Vishwanath asks his personal assistant, Megha, to quit her job and marry Vijay. Vijay and Megha are married. After the marriage, Vijay and Megha do become friends, and Megha goes out of her way to look after Vijay when he has with an accident. At the end of the year, however, Vijay decides to annul the marriage, as had been agreed upon. Megha leaves Vijay and returns home. Complications arise when Megha gets pregnant, and her family and people in the community start to question her living with her mom and who the biological father is. Vijay seems to be enjoying himself but slowly and eventually he starts to feel a longing for Meghna and her staunch devotion to him.

 After the passing of multi-millionaire Ramlal Gupta, his only son and heir, Ramesh, takes over the estate and business. He attends a Beauty Contest sponsored by Vimal Fabrics, and is attracted to the Beauty Queen, Bharti Saxena. He meets her later and invites her to his yacht to celebrate her winning the title, as well as accompanies her on several modeling shoots. He goes to her residence one morning to show her the photographs taken on his yacht. The next day Ramesh is arrested by the police and charged with sexually assaulting Bharti. He hires a advocate named Chandra, and enters a plea of not guilty, stating that both had consensual sex. The Court hears the arguments as well as the testimony from none other than Bharti's sister, Neeta, and exonerates Ramesh. Two years later, Bharti is arrested by the police for killing Ramesh in cold blood. Watch as events unfold to show what compelled Bharti to kill Ramesh, and whether the Court will sentence her to death or life in prison.

Money and power changes Thakur (Kamal Kapoor) from a normal man into a devil. He shuns his wife and family to remarry a much younger woman, not only that he throws his two children and wife out of his house to get his way. So enticed is he by his success that when his employees, led by Kalicharan (Shreeram Lagoo) go on a strike demanding higher pay and benefits, he gets Kalicharan killed. Thakur's second wife gives birth to a girl, Nisha (Zeenat Aman) and passes away.

Years later, his past comes to haunt him when the sons of Kalicharan, Shiva (Mithun) and Karan (Danny), along with their widowed mother (Seema Deo) seek revenge against him. To make matters worse, Nisha his own daughter refuses to marry Ranjeet Ranvir Singh (Ranjeet), the man Thakur has chosen for her, for she loves Shiva. However the final nail is driven in by Thakur's own son, Iqbal (Amjad Khan), and his first wife (Purnima) who come back to get him. The question remains, will the Thakur use force to do away with his opponents and have them killed, as he had done in the past, or will he adopt other more subtle methods.

Moti is in love with a village girl - Padma Khanna, but cannot afford to pay for the 'meher' (a compulsory amount of money given to the bride's family by the groom's family). So, he decides to marry Mahjubi and proposes to her. She accepts his proposal and they marry.

Moti extracts a lot of work from Mahjubi so that he can save enough money to pay for the 'meher' for his real love. Shortly after he saves enough money, he decides to divorce Mahjubi, accusing her of infidelity. He soon marries the village girl and goes back to his business of selling jaggery. But with Mahjubi's skills taken away, will Moti be able to survive on his own? Will his new wife be able to offer him the support and skills in order to enable him to survive in his trade.
